July Newsletter 2015

Newsletter - July 2015

Our summer clubs at the Club house has been a great success and a big thank you goes out to the dedicated staff that have ensured its accomplishment.

This month we say goodbye to Gillian Burns that mainly worked in our 3-5 room. Gillian is furthering her career and is going to be studying midwifery. We wish Gillian all the best in the future from staff and children.

See some of our great moments of learning, more pictures are displayed on our planning walls.

Nature Detectives Week

We collected the ingredients to make our own wormery and even collected our own worms from the garden. We went a trip to the library to research mini beasts and then went on an adventure to search for mini beasts at Dollar Park. We looked after giant African snails for the week and researched that their favourite food is oranges.

At the end of the week we went a trip to Muiravonside Farm which we all enjoyed.

Drama Week was a huge success all the children took part in our very own Peter Pan show. The children worked very hard rehearsing and made it a great day for everyone.

We had great support from the parents too, and the children enjoyed visiting the Town Hall and doing a rehearsal on the big stage.

We look forward to our next camps and hope to see you all there.

Can parents please ensure that your child is equipped for all weathers, especially if we have warm weather that you ensure that in your child’s bag there is sun cream and a hat.

Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) is a big focus within the nursery and this follows the Scottish Government Guidelines.

These guidelines are in place to ensure we are putting the child or young person at the centre and developing a shared understanding within and across agencies. The wellbeing indicators give staff a clear understanding in how to embed this practice and it consists of eight areas called SHANARRI (Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Respect, Responsible and Included).

The staff work with all areas throughout the month, but have been going into more depth with the children about being RESPECTED.

The nursery improvement plan 2015/16 will be focusing on embedding the GIRFEC practices and attainment in literacy and numeracy. More information will be given during the coming months.

The 3-5 years room staff would like to inform parents that for the new term your child’s keyworker may change. Staff will inform you individually and also the new keyworker wall is displayed in your child’s room.

You can keep up to date with everything that is happening in the nursery by following our Carousel Facebook page.

Our next PSA (parent, staff Association) meeting will be on Wednesday 2nd September 2015 at 6pm. All parents are welcome, we appreciate all parent support.

Kimberley Walker our nursery cook would like to share this recipe of the month of chicken enchiladas. Kimberley displays each month a new recipe just outside the nursery kitchen.

Please have a look and recipe cards are available to take away. The big cook, little cook floor books are also on display so you can see what the children have been involved in and learned.
